Lera Brooke knew the night was going to be special. What she didn’t know was that it would change her whole world. “Meet me in the woods tonight,” his words echoed in her head. She was supposed to meet Corey that night. She didn’t know why, but knew it was important. But Lera’s plans were derailed by a late night accident which changed everything.
Lera wakes to find that she is totally alone. No one in the streets, stores, cars, or houses. Now she must find her way back to Corey, to her family, to her life.
But it’s not long before Lera discovers she was wrong. She’s not alone in this ghost town. She meets Dean and a few others like her who awoke to find themselves in a place where everyone they care about was gone. These few people band together after The Wakening to figure out what has become of their world.

“I’ll ask Pops to go down the lane and search other houses, you know, since he knows what a phone book is.” He laughs and Dean joins in, at my expense of course. But I don’t mind. Like I said, any chance for laughter is welcome. But the moment wears off too quickly.
“You done guys?”I ask and give them both an annoyed look. “Because I was thinking. Ever since Dean told me he was on his way into town that night and well, that was the last thing he remembered…. It made me realize, we all have stories, locations, before The Wakening. If we share those facts, we might find a common denominator…..
“Lera, that is brilliant!” Nick says and he calls everyone in, even the girls. ‘Okay, we have a project.”

The Wakening is a young adult science fiction novel. It is written by author Auri Lynn, a mother, sister, daughter, wife, writer and naturalist. She works in the field of interpretation, parks and recreation and environmental education. The Wakening started with a mid career change that redirected her creative outflow into writing. A. Lynn got into writing while planning programs for a historic mansion. “We would put on murder mysteries with a team of volunteers every year. After a few years we realized we could write them ourselves, so that’s what we started doing.”
It’s been a while now, writing, editing, pausing and restarting. But I’m back at it and dedicated to seeing this story in print. I’m always inspired by my family, supported by my husband, and proud of my daughters. In fact it was one of my daughters who inspired and renewed my energy around this project earlier this year. She read The Wakening and loved it, she’s been encouraging me ever since.” ~ A / 2025

“Much of what I am writing just comes to me as I sit down to continue the story. I’m really getting into the characters now and can’t wait to see how things turn out. I hope you enjoy it.”
